ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band
The ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band ranks as one of the premiere bands in East Tennessee State University's renowned Bluegrass, Old-Time and Country Music Program. Throughout the years, this band has performed at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium; the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C.; and at Russian venues while representing the U.S. at the Moscow International Folk Festival. Three members of the current lineup recently toured England and Scotland to promote the Southern Appalachian region, presenting a series of six concerts at major holiday and travel shows in Manchester, England, and Glasgow, Scotland. Wires and Wood
The experience of this eclectic regional quintet spans decades in the worlds of bluegrass, country, folk, rock-n-roll and rockabilly. So it comes as no surprise that the repertoire of Wires and Wood includes tunes from Flatt & Scruggs, Jim Croce and The Rolling Stones. Their seasoned, passionate on-stage presence has been honed in the top-notch gigs of their combined histories. Eric McMurray (mandolin, banjo, fiddle, vocals) played many times at the Station Inn during his years in Nashville; Rick Barker (guitar, vocals) was a founding member of local favorite Appalachian Trail; Glen Rose (banjo) performed with his brother on the Martha White Bluegrass Caravan when he was only 12 and on the Grand Ole Opry as a guest of Lester Flatt when he was 14; Tim Laughlin (mandolin, fiddle) has shared the stage with Larry Sparks, Doyle Lawson, Wayne Taylor (Blue Highway) and Ron Block (Union Station); Mark Mervis (bass, vocals) got hooked on Doc Watson at an early age and went on to play in a wide range of musical styles.
